NON-PERSONAL HEALTH INFORMATION

The following are usually not considered PHI:
• Gender
• Race
• Age
• Hair color
• Eye color
• Marital status

As a general rule, information about a patient that is a characteristic of a person is not considered PHI. For example, let's say a patient is a bald Asian male, 65 years old. These characteristics of the patient can be any one of millions of people. It does not uniquely identify who the patient is, and therefore it is not considered PHI.
